On May 2nd, we participated in the signing ceremony and celebration service to transfer the Northfield property officially to The Moody Center and Thomas Aquinas College.
400 people gathered in Moody’s auditorium to watch the ceremony in addition to more watching from online. Many who were present shared stories of their connections traced back to the Moody heritage. There was a sense of excitement with the renewal of this historic space. This hope is more than just preserving history; it is about changing the future.
When you walk the grounds at the Northfield campus, there is a sense still of God’s spirit ready to move. The Moody Center wants to claim this presence and power to continue on Moody’s work of bringing souls to Christ.
At the celebration service, we announced several different areas we look to focus upon- a museum, online outreach, and hosting events.
D.L. Moody Museum
Dr. Erwin Lutzer stated the reason we are building a museum is not to enthrall people with Moody’s greatness, but with the greatness of Moody’s God. If you look at Moody’s background compared to the things he accomplished, it does not make sense, so his work surely must be credited to the Lord’s favor. We hope a museum will bring glory back to the Lord.
Utilizing the online platform is critical in this modern time, and we are dedicated to building valuable resources. Our focus is equipping ministry leaders and pastors. Similar to D.L. Moody’s mission of training up workers for the Lord, we see our greatest impact can come through raising up others to go be strong voices for the gospel.
One of the best parts of this celebration service was seeing people fill up the auditorium. You cannot walk into this campus without gaining some sense of God’s Spirit, and we want to draw people here to experience it themselves. What makes this New England Christian event venue unique is that not only is it a beautiful place of renewal, it is a place rooted in history. We believe people need to bring their Christian groups here to be anchored in history and sent out better equipped. We want to be generous with this legacy and hope!
Thank you again to all who were part of this historic day! We look forward to the future.
